Bite Sized
Bite Size (d) originated as an improvised quilt of a giant orange mouth, and spun into a series of projects that I worked on over the course of 2025. During this time I was working on a play written by a dear friend exploring womanhood and ‘growing up’. I was playing three different characters, each women of different ages and life experiences. I was struck by the feeling that women often make ourselves smaller over time. smaller in personality, in sound, in space, in waist circumference. bite size.
This quilt was a revolt against this expectation of inevitable shrinkage. I wanted to take up SPACE with material and color. I wanted to make something obvious and and strange, with loose ends and hours of work evident in its appearance.
During the making of the quilt I started looking more in depth through old family pictures and happened upon one of my brother and I when we are quite young. I used this photograph as the base for an animation, series of risograph prints and books continuing the themes of Bite Size.
